Barnardo's help the unemployed

Barnardo’s is stepping up efforts to help people secure the skills and know-how they need to land jobs and potentially transform their fortunes.

The charity’s work club at its community house on Welsh Road, Harraby, has started as the latest Government figures showed the county’s unemployment total rose by 308 in the past month.

Barnardo’s is confident its work in Carlisle can make a difference.

Community development officer Mags Moorhead said: “It will be an exciting opportunity for many in the city. We’ve been taking referrals from the Job Centre but it is for any of our service users and anyone in the areas we serve.

“They can come and access it.”

The club is currently a weekly drop-in session between 10am and noon on Wednesdays, but there are plans to extend it after the summer.
